Some of the best travel moments are the ones you don’t see coming—and spontaneous dining is one of my favourite ways to explore a place. While wandering the peaceful streets of Sanur in Bali, we discovered SEJA, a modern Indonesian eatery tucked between Puri Santrian Beach Resort & Spa, Parma Sanur Beach Hotel, and Sudamala Resort.

Just a short stroll from the beach, SEJA is unassuming yet beautiful, blending fresh tropical vibes with authentic Indonesian soul. Whether you're in the mood for something local or something light and creative, SEJA’s menu delivers with finesse.

Seja Restaurant boasts modern architecture with a two-story terrace adorned with lush greenery, offering a stylish and inviting dining experience.

The Spontaneous Magic

We stumbled across SEJA after a slow afternoon walk and instantly felt drawn in by its lush courtyard and laid-back charm. It was one of those Dérive Moments—unplanned, unhurried, and full of wonder.

As the sun dipped lower and the soft Bali breeze rolled in, we found ourselves sipping cocktails and grazing on vibrant, flavour-packed dishes—completely immersed in the moment.

This wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience layered with unexpected joy and effortless discovery.

The Vibe

SEJA feels like a hidden garden, designed with earthy textures, soft lighting, and enough space to let the tropical air flow freely. You’ll find a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, with palms rustling gently around you and locals and travellers sharing meals side by side.

The service is warm and attentive—never rushed, always sincere. It’s a place that invites you to slow down and stay a little longer.

What We Ordered

We ordered a mix of share-style dishes including:

  • Ikan Bakar: perfectly grilled fish served with sambal and local greens.

  • Sate Lilit: spiced minced chicken skewers, aromatic and tender.

  • Kampbing Bakar Bumbu Bali: Grilled marinated lamb with vegetables tossed in chilli, steam rice and crackers

  • Anzac Apple: Apple cookie crumble, ice cream with caramel sauce - came highly recommended by the team at Seja

Their cocktail list is creative and fresh—think passionfruit twists, lemongrass spritzes, and icy glasses that instantly cool you from the Balinese heat.

Stay Recommendation

We stayed at the Puri Santrian Beach Resort & Spa, a serene beachfront oasis that offered the perfect base for unwinding. From there, SEJA was just a short walk away—ideal for spontaneous dinners after a day of sun, sea, or spa time.

Why It Belongs in a 'Seek Experience'

SEJA fits perfectly into what I call a Seek Experience—a thoughtfully chosen stop that still leaves space for spontaneity. It’s not just about eating out; it’s about how a place makes you feel, what you notice, and who you meet when you least expect it.

Travel Tip:

Look out for this pocket of charm on your next Bali escape. Sometimes, letting yourself drift away from the planned path leads to the most flavourful memories.
